New owner!

I just upgraded from my 2003 Honda ST1300 to a 2009 R1200RT! (I'm enjoying it, but not a 100% convinced yet). Maybe my new brethren could help me with:
1)I want to read any error codes, clear nag screens, etc. I'm assuming, rather than buying a reader, I should get the BMW MOTOSCAN APP, an obdii chip, and the little pigtail that goes from the round data port to an obdii connector. Is this correct? Is there a link to the specific pigtail or obdii chip I should buy?
2) The bike only came with one key. I bought a blank key off EBay, but I don't think any of the local locksmiths are up to programming it. I assume I just have to go to the dealer and get a replacement key.
3) I think I'm the 5th owner and, obviously, stuff has been lost or modified. Here's what I got in the remnants of the toolkit. Clearly, I will assemble something better before I go anywhere (Mexico!), but I'm wondering if there is some critical BMW tool that would have been included and is vital?

Welcome from Friendswood, Texas

1. It's expensive, but a GS911 will solve that problem and many others.
2. The bike originally came with only 1 key. The eBay key almost certainly won't work. The best solution is getting one of the plastic emergency keys from BMW.
Don't lose your key. It could cost $600 to $800 to get riding again.
3. There is a file by a fellow known as Boxflyer that lists all the tools needed for an RT. I had it, but the link is no longer valid. Hopefully someone has the new link.

Try this:

Most BMW dealers can order you another key if you provide registration or title and ID. I think the plastic backup key is about $85 and a real key is around $120.

That looks pretty similar to the tools I got with my ‘05 when I picked it up a couple of months ago. Judging by the second wrench from the right, you probably have an optional/aftermarket oil filler cap, a five point security torx (the plastic wrench at the far right is for the OE filler cap). Beyond that and some torx bits, I can’t think of anything special.

Here’s a breakdown of the supplemental kit from https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsM ... d=09082020
