Fuel sensor strip

Can anybody help I have a 2005r1200rt the fuel sensor has packed in but before I pay out a lot of money for a new one does anybody know the outputs from the zfe to the plug I can measure with a meter I asked a bmw dealers they had no information at all so how do they go about fixing anything ?????????

I found this... It's for a R1200GS, but hopefully would be the same or point you in the right direction. The attached PDF wiring diagram notes B9220 as the fuel level sensor. Legend is on page 1, I found the unit on the bottom left of page 6 (image edited to save space):
