Hi,
New to the forum and still getting to know my R1200RT. I’ve bought a set of the R&G engine bars but I’ve hit a problem fitting them to the bike. The righthand side fits no problem, but the lefthand side doesn’t fit properly. I can’t see what I am doing wrong, but back support section of the bar is designed to sit on the two bolts holding the frame to the engine, next to the Sidestand pivot. The frame comes with spacers to allow for clearance on the frame lugs, but these aren’t sufficient to give enough clearance over the bolt head that secures the Sidestand spring.
Anyone fitted these and found they had to do some fettling to make them fit?

The ones i bought from China fitted to the same mounting points.
Have you put the spacers behind the other mounting points aswell, if not that could be pulling the front inwards like your photo is showing.

Hi, I think the photo misleads a tad. I’ve put the spacers in place and just offered the frame up loosely in the photo. The spacers give enough clearance for the frame ‘lugs’ or folds if that’s a better description but it won’t clear the Sidestand bolt head. It was getting cold, late and dark when I hit this problem last night. I tried loosening the side stand bolt, giving a bit of space behind, to see if the crash frame would then sit in place. That seemed to work, but there is no space to then lock down the Sidestand bolt.
I could fettle the frame to give a crescent clearance around the Sidestand bolt, but reluctant if no one else has had to do that because I maybe missing something obvious.
I am going to try and talk to R&G today.

Okay, update!
Turns out if you it is cold and dark in your garage, and something isn’t fitting right, walk away and take another look in daylight. Turns out the spring retention bolt was just a little bit loose. That raised it a tad and stopped the frame sitting in position. The tolerance on the assembly is obviously tight and that was enough to create a problem. Hohum.

Can you leave the crash bars in place when doing maintenance like valve shim check and oil filter change?
