So i Sold my Hayabusa and am feeling a bit sad. So i thought i needed to buy myself something to cheer myself up.
I did say in an older thread that i wanted to do the GS top yoke and bar conversion.
So today i was able to find the parts i wanted and in the condition i wanted to.
Total cost for the parts was £214.95 used including postage, which i think is not a bad price.
I'm trying to get it as close to the riding prosition of my Varadero as it fits me very well.

You may need longer cables and hoses

From what i've read, the stock ones should fit. may have to just reroute some of them.

The first part is here. The top yoke, and its in great condition.
Had a look today to see where the connection plugs are for the ignition switch.
Was very happy to see that it has 2 plugs under the switch which make life much easier to remove.
I also priced up the 3 parts new from BMW.
Just over £900 for the top yoke, handlebars and risers
So a saving of £700 buying good used parts is worth the time looking.
The top yoke and bars came from a 2019 1250GS, same year as my 1250RT.

So this morning i had time to work on Artie.
I thought that it was going to be a hard-ish job to remove and swap over the top yoke.
It was very easy to do, and took me 2 hours including drilling out the ignition switch and swapping it over.
So i am now already for the handlebars and bar risers to come.
Just for info, you need to place a jack under the front of the engine.
This is not to lift the wheel off the ground, its just to take the weight off the forks, or the tops move backwards.
I found this out when i removed the top yoke.
Also you can never have enough towels or bubble wrap on the bike when working on it like this.
This is costing me just over £200 to do. Which is cheaper than Helibars and the other type of risers you can buy, apart from the cheap ones from China.
And as it is an opition to have from BMW, it will look stock as all the parts are BMW OEM parts.
Here are some photos of what i've done so far.

My brake line is at the max with a lower riser but the clutch line is fine. Just make sure but testing them on lock to lock

Don’t forget to advise your insurance company, unless you want to give them an opportunity to avoid paying out if you have an incident.

always do as it does not cost as much extra as you may think.
EDIT...
All sorted, Just cost me £25 admin fee to add the mod and make the change to my policy.
So including parts and insurance fee a total of £240 which is still a great price .

Some of these so-called "admin charges" are a joke. Sometime back, must be about 10 years now. I changed the wheels on my wife's car. No bigger it was just the old ones were passed their sale by date. The insurance company said no extra charge except for an admin of charge £75. The bloody insurance was under £100 for fully comp. As the insurance had only a month to go, i said no thanks I'll put the old wheels back on( I didn't) Never used that company again. How can some companies charge so much for 2 minutes on the keyboard and a stamp. It's a rip off.
BeMoto is my bike insurer and they do not charge for changes.

The GS bars are about 3 inches wider than the stock RT cast handlebars.
One thing i forgot to do was take a measurement to see how much higher the bars will be over stock.
If possible, could someone put there stock 2014 onward RT on the main stand and see how many CM it is from the ground to the underside of the bar end weight on the end of it . Tell me which side you took it from please.

So i have now fitted the GS handlebars. They are about 3" wider than the RT cast bars.
I have read that you can cut upto 30mm off each end to make them narrower.
Will wait and see after riding it for a month or two.
From just sitting on the bike on the main stand, it feels a lot more relaxed.
It is very close to my Varadero which was my goal.
The only problem is the mirrors. The view from them now is not that good.
So I have bought a pair of round bmw mirrors to go on to the handlebars.
Here is a photo of the bars fitted without the mirrors.

The sun came out so i managed to get the bike out for a couple more photos.
I rode it at walking pace up the drive, and the slow speed stability was very good.
