First Short Ride

So this morning i got out for the first time on Artie.
I did a short shakedown ride of 65 miles. Both A & B roads
Did i do the right thing in buying the RT and Spending nearly 12K in total
Hell yes, I enjoyed every mile i did today. It was just like riding my Varadero.
Also fitting the GS bars was money well spent to, and i love the mirrors i fitted.
I went out on my own and left the wife indoors. It was bliss.
The out side temp was 3 degrees and only turned on the heated grips for the last 10-15 miles.
The RT is so well balanced and turning without putting your feet down was a breaze.
There was another RT that i saw on the A449 going the other way. I did say Hi if it was anyone on here.
The only down side to the ride was i now have to clear the bike. its covered in salt.
I have got to ask, why the need for the bigger screen that others are fitting ???
I'm 6 foot with the seat on it low setting and found no wind buffing or anything.
I took 2 photos when i did stop. One at Abber bus station and one at Tintern Abby.
There are also some of how much crap i now have to clean off the bike.

Good for you to get out, I got mine out for about 20 miles a few weeks ago, but it has not done anything since. With regard to the screen, I'm 6 1" and have the seat on high, so I'm probably 2/3" higher, and the larger screen makes a big difference rather than have my head right in the turbulence.
I'm going to drill a few holes in it though as I can feel a bit of negative pressure sucking me forward a bit, nothing uncomfortable, but I feel it. I've also got some rises to go on, but they are not as straight forward as my last bikes to fit, I'll need to see if there is anything on YouTube as I believe you need a "drift" to fit them??

Glad you like it
Regarding the screen, I’m 6’6” and have a high seat, set on high because it messes with my legs and hip joints so need a massive screen for the quieter side of life in my lug holes
I don’t enjoy riding the work bikes as they have standard screens so get a right head battering!

I had the screen up to nearly full hight, and on the A449 at 70mph i felt no head buffing from the wind at all.
Maybe i'm sitting back a bit more with the GS bars and risers fitted and i'm not in the buffing zone.
I know i was not sitting up against the tank like i do on my other bikes.

I left the bike out last night under the carport as it was to wet to put in the garage.
Will put it away today and polish it tomorrow.

You can hire a tool for £25, but with a £200 deposit, it makes the job quick and simple.

It's not just your overall height to take into account, it's the make of your body. I'm 6'1" but have shorter legs and a longer back than average for my height, so sit higher on the bike. Also, the helmet you wear may cause a lot of wind noise, I've change from a Bell SRT Modular to an AGV Tourmodular helmet, the reduction in wind noise/buffeting is vast.

If I could find someone with the tool who would swop them for £25 I'd be perfectly happy

First time out this year on my RT today, did 170 miles. The bike was treated with an application ACF-50 by hand with a cloth. In places, the roads were very dirty. Will see how the Autoglym snow foam performs when I wash it.
