05 BMW RT 1200 ESA Not Functioning

Post by paulmarler »

Good afternoon

my ESA seems to be not functioning i have toggled between all settings...sport, comfort, and normal but it seems the bike rear shock doesn't move at all. there are no error codes ( least i think on screen) ive read that this is common on ESA1 bikes like mine 05-09 rt 1200's
i have also read dealers can update software that may fix this issue but I'm not sure this will be a fix,

is there an alternative shock that will work to correct this issue? has anyone here experienced this with their RT? and how did you fix this issue??

some items ive read state water gets into the bottom plug and rusts it out, some the motor on ESA 1 fails because the nitrogen assist leaks out and the electric motor is not strong enough to push the rod that adjusts teh shock.

thank you for any advice given im at a loss

Sport, comfort & normal are damping settings, I wouldn't expect to see the rear of the bike move.

However, when switching the preload between the three load settings, the rear end will raise up & lower down.
