BMW Connected App is shrinking the maps..

Hi guys

Can anybody tell me what is going on? My BMW Connected app sometimes (often!) shrinks the home page (the one with the weather on etc) into the top half of the phone screen and then it also does the same with the maps when it bluetooths up to the TFT. The only way I can solve it is to completely power off my phone and then restart it which then restores the home page & maps to their normal full phone screen size. I thought there might be a glitch in the app somewhere so yesterday I uninstalled it and reloaded the latest version (5.3) and had the ball-ache of having to re-download all my maps - but it is still doing the same thing. Does anybody know what is going on? All the other apps on my phone are absolutely fine......it's only BMW Connected that has the problem.

It's VERY irritating!

PLEASE HELP!

Matt

I've not seen it, but having the latest software updates on your phone may help, they don't always auto download, so try them manually. A full phone can also cause software glitches, try to keep a good 5/6Gb free so programs and apps can use the space to "move around in", both are free, so worth a go

I came here to post the same issue. 5% of time time it's normal size and the other it's the shrunken size. I thought I had this issue some time ago but I can't remember but this time it's completely worse. Using a Samsung S21

Hi Jesim1

Thanks for taking the time to reply - appreciated. My phone is quite new and has loads of free Ggbytes. Plus I always install any updates to versions of the phone's software so I feel the problem must lie elsewhere. As you can imagine it is very frustrating because I'm constantly having to power off my phone and restart it once I stop for anything. As I'm currently on tour in Europe I'm relying on my imported routes but am experiencing real problems.

All help / advice gratefully received so thanks for your suggestions.

Cheers. Matt

Hi Motor3725

That's interesting and thanks for joining the debate. My phone is Samsung Galaxy s22 and is only 4 months old. Sorry to hear you are having similar problems because it is extremely irritating and is actually unsustainable. Your satnav needs to be reliable 100% of the time. If you manage to find anything out then do please let me know and I'll do likewise. Email is better because I'll deffo pick t up quickly:

Cheers. Matt

Mine does the same and today if froze half way through a ride. Map on the TFT froze the only thing that changed wat my ETA at destination.
Eventually it disconnected Thankfully I have a TomTom on the bike too.
When I had completed the ride checked the phone and it said to restart the app and the TFT.

Just put the bike away instead.

Have also had the same issue for a week or two!! Thought that it was just me and my phone (Samsung Galaxy A71!)
Can't offer any advice or help either, because I haven't been able to work anything out.
Have also tried restarts etc, but to no avail.
Have also noticed that I now have to open the app on the phone, it seems to have lost its auto connect.
As you say, very frustrating and can only assume some error in the update that will hopefully get sorted soonest.
At least I now know its not just me!!

Thanks guys for getting on this and replying to me. Sorry you are all suffering the same frustration. I used to have a dedicated phone for the bike just to run the app / TFT - it was an old Samsung S10 and never gave any problems. However, updated to a Samsung S22 in January and now I'm using that the above problems are frequent. As you could see I am using the latest versions of both phone and App (5.3) software which has only very recently been released. The question I keep asking myself is does the problem lie with the phone or is it with the BMW Connected app?

Does anyone know how to get in touch with BMW to flag the problem?

It needs sorting out.

Cheers again guys.

Matt

Open the app on your phone, tap the 3 dots in the bottom right hand corner, scroll down and at the very bottom you will find "REPORT PROBLEM"

I'm just back from Spain/Portugal, 3000 miles and my sat nave only lost the signal once in the mountains, and never dropped out or shrunk in size. I've got an Apple iPhone 14 pro max, which just fits in the compartment without a case, I notice that most of the posts above, are for android phones, and more notable the Samsung range? It could be there are other apps interfering with the BMW one, that would explain a lot? I'm not sure on android, but can you switch off most of the apps except the BMW one?

At this point i'm thinking it has to be the phone. It runs fine on my non-work cell (iPhone 13 mini) My Samsung did an update just a couple weeks ago and that lines up with when this issue started. Hopefully they'll update the app to mesh with the phone's OS soon. I've had good luck the past 2 years with the connected system until now.

Actually Scratch that.......reloaded the App on my personal Iphone and it does the same thing. So it's more than likely something that happened with the app itself

Hi Guys.

Brilliant thread and very informative. Just to keep everyone in the loop I have now reported the problem to BMW using the 'Report Problem' function within the app (thanks Yorkie!)

I'll get back to you all when / if I get a response.

Any further info then keep posting........ we can't all be wrong!

Cheers.

Matt

Just a thought....... if everyone also reported the problem it might just give us the leverage we need to make BMW get off their rear ends and sort it out!

Sat nav? You mean your CR system using your phone?
