Post by JustmeandtheRT »

05 r12rt 94k miles recently the back end has developed a significant amount of wobble or play after getting a flat I suspect i tore up my final D limping it home the fluid was never this bad i just did swing arm bearings helped but not cured over any uneven roads sets off a wobble thTs just terrifying ruins the enjoyment of riding this machine even considering selling if unable to remidy i am an automotive tech/mech have been well over a decade i have a press etc how hard is the over haul my bud says its likely the bearing in the final D idk 🤷 i felt top to bottom play immediately after my bearing job then it just went away havent been able to get any play out of the tire since on the center stand on the road ib get plenty slop. What are the chances it’s the tire that I just cooked it and it made it even softer than it really is? I have a new tire. I just need to install it and I also have BMW RSD but it says you need all sorts of tools and I don’t I’m not trying to listen to all that I mean I will but only the stuff thats. Critical torque specs threadloxk etc Any and every bit of help is appreciated

How dangerous is it to ride till the final drive blows up?!

I'm not someone to be able to answer this TBH, but at that age and milage I'd be replacing it if at all financially possible. Nothing last forever, and a bike with that wear and tear is probably at the end of so many of it's components life it would be better to put it into a BMW specialist and ask them to go over it head to toe, which would not be cheap, but neither is locking your final drive on the motorway doing 80mph

Is there any place in the swing arm where it meets the rear of the engine?. What about the swing are bearings? Also as you said a wore tyre can course wobbles.
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
