OIL FILTER BLOWN OFF WHILE RIDING

Hello everyone....

long time rider of bikes, first time owning and riding a BMW....2005 R1200RT with @26K miles....really like it so far UNTIL about 4 hours ago...

I changed the oil which I always do myself with no issues ever...I removed the FN-164 oil filter and replaced it with a STP S2808 which my local parts store crossed referenced for to the FN164 oil filter...I was a longer/deeper oil filter for sure but it screwed on and I tightened it with my oil filter tool and poured in 4 complete quarts of synthetic oil...cranked the bike and ran it for a minute or two max....rechecked the glass window after is settled down in about 10 minutes and the oil was at the very top completely filling the window....SO im thinking all is ok as this is the MAX allowable mark as noted on you tube via BMW mechanics site I watched....get dressed and hit the road and BAMM, about 3 miles down the road the oil filter blows off while I was going about 25 mph....RED TRIANGLE WAS FLASHING, pulled over and got off and noticed oil everywhere and no sign of the filter, then the filter gasket dropped out the engine to the ground....

My question is the problem here that I simply added too much oil and the pressure blew off the filter?
Or did I over tighten the filter?
Or maybe a faulty STP oil filter maybe?

I added a HiFlo Oil filter that I ordered previously and its another shallow one like the FN164 I pulled off, then added 3.5 quarts of oil where the oil level is in the middle of glass checking window as stated online as well....

Any insight and advice is welcomed...

Thanks fellas...

Is the FN 164 a typo error, should it be a KN 164.

The STP S2808 is 86mm long/deep and is concave in the centre/thread.

The Hiflo HF 164 is 54mm long/deep and is convex in the centre/thread.

Could the filter gasket which dropped off the engine be from the original FN 164. When removing a filter, the gasket can stick to the engine and become detached from the filter.

With the potential of there being two gaskets and the concave/convex alternatives, it is possible that the STP filter was only screwed on a few threads.

With the STP filter being 32mm longer than the Hiflo, is there a chance it has grounded on something while riding along.

Was there any evidence of the "screw on" engine threads being damaged.

I doubt that oil pressure caused the STP filter to blow off.

How can a filter which is clearly not correct be cross-referenced by the parts store.
