Service Time

Post by EasyRider »

So i have just book the yearly service for Artie.
It booked in for 11th September at Cotsworlds BMW.
The price i have been given is over £450 including valves check.
I asked him how much without the valves check and he would not give me a price.
He just said that is whats needed at this service.
The last valve check was 2 years ago at 12,617 miles.
The bike now has 16,760 miles and if i add another 2,000 miles to that for between now and the service.
That give a total of 6,000 from last valve check. It's last service was only 1,000 miles ago last year.
So should i get them checked or wait till next year when it will be near the 12,000 mile mark from last check.

How much was the valve check 2 years ago.

Ask the dealer to provide the AW (Fixed Rate Time) for the valve check and what their hourly rate is.

Has anyone got an invoice which shows the AW.

Well after trying 3 times to get back though to the service desk, i got a call back at 4.30pm.
I spoke to another person and said i was not happy with the quote i was given for the service.
He said if i just want an oil and filter service with bike health check, its £170.
Because of how much use the bike has had this year, i think that is all it needs.
Will pay for the big service next year when its done more miles.
The service in 2022 for the valve check had a labour cost of £338, total bill was £496

Has anyone had to have there valves adjusted. How much extra was the cost over just a valve check.
This is to all RT owners, But would like to know if any 1250RT's have had to have there valves adjusted and at what mileage.

All service items have a code, 1134502 is checking valve clearance which has an AW of 6.00 at £47.52 + VAT = £57.02.

The labour rate for 1 hour is divided by 12, an AW of 1.00 = 5 minutes. This makes the hourly rate £114.04 inc. VAT.

At 18K miles, it needs an air filter too.

Buy a Hiflo HFA7915 air filter and save ~£20.

That is a problem with me. I only buy and fit OEM parts. For how much these bike cost us, it's not a biggy paying that little bit more for OEM parts. The OEM air filter is about £28, It will cost double that in labour to have BMW fit it at the service.
I have OEM service parts in a box for all our bikes. Like with my Kawasaki i bought 6 OEM oil filters (made in Japan) before they started making them in China.

I've supplied and BMW have fitted Hiflo oil filters to my RT.

As this filter is of equivalent spec. to OEM, there are no issues with the BMW Insured Warranty either.

I don't know why they did not make a removable cover on the bodywork plastics to help with changing the air filter.
Having to remove so many panels to change the air filter is just a poor design.
