BMW R1200RT/R1250RT Forum

Hello to all,

I have been riding for a long time (1988), but not much each year, about 3000 - 4000 KM (1800- 2400 miles). last year purchased a 2005 R1200RT. So far it have been wonderful. Hoping to get many more KM now that I am retired. So far this year I have 2400 KM. It has been a good riding year so far in New Brunswick.

When I bought the motorcycle there was no owners manual for it. Learning from a friend who has a 2009 model. Computers and I do not always get along. Like paper manuals better. Can someone tell me a good manual to purchase to do maintenance when needed. I am also looking to find out how to check the radiator level. Every site tells me to turn the steering to the left and that will bring the sight gauge into view by the radiator. I can not find it, nor can anyone else who has tried on my motorcycle.

If all goes well, I will post some pictures here of my rides, if allowed.

hello and thank you for your reply. Always nice to have recommendation of someone who has used the manual.
I looked up the book and with a little bit of a search at top, found it in available in US funds. I will check and see if there is much difference in cost between the two currencies and Canadian.
It is great that it includes both paper and online. I do well with paper and my friend does well with online.

You're looking for coolant level on a 2005 RT? Unless i'm missing something, your bike isn't water cooled.

Good luck with the Haynes manual. I bought one and hardly refer to it. I bought a CD version of the BMW service manual for about $20 CDN of Ebay.

Thank you. Did some more checking and you are correct. Now I know the radiator under the headlights is an oil cooler.

I am thinking of the Haynes manual as it has an online version included if purchased from Haynes. As I noted before Computer searches and me do not get along well. Almost failed a course for that reason, computer didn't take me where it should, even when the instructor was there ensuring I typed the right parameters.
