What happened? Wouldn’t start

Post by Pietro Rosso »

Hi

Can I have some advice please?

R1250RT 2021 on a trip this morning. Had to stop after an hour of fast A roads and then it wouldn’t start. Barely turning over and wouldn’t catch. Volts reading as 12.0.

I tried it a couple of times and it was the same. Left it 20 minutes and it started fine.

Any help appreciated…

It could be the same hot starting problem as some of the 1250GS.
I think they replaced the starter solenoid or cleaned the contacts.
Have a look on UKGSer.

Hi
You will probably find it's the battery.
They had a problem around 2020-2021 of batteries getting warm and internally shorting, once left to cool down it would start again.

It's the start of it giving up, there was a batch / battery number that was effected but I can't remember it now.
Do a search on here and you should find it.
