Backup Facebook Group

Post by RTBoy »

In the very unlikely event that this forum fails, we’ve set up a backup Facebook group so we don’t lose touch with the great friends we’ve made over the years.

Whilst the structure of Facebook isn’t nearly as good as the forum, it does seems a very popular alternative nowadays.

Please feel free to join our group at:

Seems like a good idea. I lost lots of online friends when the original CB500 forum failed.

I’ve joined up - just in case.

The forum won't fail for as long I have it and there is money available to pay the bills  Which I haven't failed in the last 17 years. i will just keep it going and going

just be careful as all facebook groups do is split the posts between the forum and facebook and that's what ends forums sadly! Seen it happen to a lot of forums where they start a facebook group and everyone just moves to that for convenience.

I will still join though :thumb:

If more members got involved then, lm sure everything would get keep going side by side.

Personal I don't understand why there are so many members that don't make the effort to join in the member meet ups.

Social events are just as important as keyboard posts and putting face's to names is great fun. Don't let let the likes of certain key high post people put you off turning up.

Sadly it doesn't work like that

I have seen many forums go under due to Facebook groups.

Everyone wants everything in one place now and in an app! And Facebook offers that.

It's a challenge to keep up a forum competing against Facebook groups.

Is a Forum a better place than FB for keeping useful info. about RT's.

I too have seen a very helpful motorcycle forum go down the pan because of FB. Those who did not wish to contribute to the forum migrated to FB.

For keeping things in order and in certain sections and easily searchable a forum is far better

For ease of use and convenience Facebook groups tend to be a lot quicker and easier to use

The introduction of mobile Internet also plays a part too

They both have their uses

Because i dont do or like FB, I will always use a forum.
This forum is not very busy anyway, so i think adding a FB forum will not help.
I know people will say it wont happen and we will still use the forum.
Lets see, as most members only come on here for info or help anyway.
I do hope this is not the beginning of the end.

I don't do FB either, for social interaction, FB may have its' place.

What is the core purpose of the RT Forum, to help each other with Motorcycle related issues or "take the piss" out of others.

Interesting question David. One I suspect you already know the answer to!

If you feel it’s the latter, then perhaps it’s time for some quiet reflection. I note that Bob21 gave you a number of well considered pointers which you deliberately chose to ignore.

Generally speaking, I’ve always found most of the members of the group to be very helpful, sociable and welcoming. I’ve enjoyed many trips away with people who I now consider to be true friends way beyond what a forum or Facebook group has to offer. If you’ve not managed to form those same friendships, then perhaps it’s time to ask yourself “why….?”

On a "one to one" basis, I've got on with all members who have regularly attended the RT annual meets and the more local NM meets. Those individuals know my personality and make up. Unfortunately, when those individuals get together, both in person and online, it's a different story.

What seems to be being forgotten here is that David organised the first 5 out of 9 RT annual meets. Without these meets, the friendships mentioned would not have developed. I have made good personal connections with some forum members.

Another difference is I do not booze. Is drinking half a bottle of vodka or a number of beers plus spirits responsible when riding a motorcycle the next day.

I haven't attended the annual meet for the past couple of years. This hasn't resulted in any new members taking part.

I'm sorry to have had to post this, I've resisted it for a long time but "enough is enough". This behaviour by others will not dampen my input into the forum and I will continue to help others as best I can.

The success of the meetings can be measured by the input and interaction from those present. I note they’ve improved exponentially in the last couple of years. You should rightly take the credit for initiating the first meetings - well done you.

I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment on people’s personal choices, nor do I see what you hope to gain by doing so.

I don't think that the personal comments made by others are appropriate either.

 Only half a bottle of Vodka, which light weight was that?

A few beers might relax you and you'll enjoy the meets more. Crap I'm doing it again and taking the p155 😞
