Hill start control

Hi all

I’m still getting used to my new (to me) 2022 RT. One of the things I can’t seem to get to work properly is the hill start control.

My bike has the Pro version (which I think means it applies automatically on an incline) and that function seems to work fine. However, I’ve followed the instructions in the book but cannot for the life of me get it to apply manually. Any tips? Am I missing something?

On my 16 you applied the brake and when stopped pulled the lever right in, sometimes a sharp pull was needed.

It’s the last bit of travel where mine kicks in but needs a rapid intentional pull. I assume it’s a feature not to have the brake held on after heavy braking, so making it a deliberate action.

I heavy squeeze when already stopped will do the trick, but TBH, you may have to be on an incline for it to register, it's great in most circumstances, but tonight I was stopped on a il and wanted to roll back to park - uh-uh, the bugger kept re engaging

Rusty, it looks like the Hill Start control on your bike is set to automatic. Perhaps you might want to go into the TFT settings and change it to manual for better control ?!

I’ve tried the rapid deliberate pull but no joy

Also changed it to manual and it doesn’t work

It has the Option 719 levers but I can’t imagine they’d make a difference

Hi

You can use the front or rear brake lever to apply and disengage this but you need to pull the brake lever hard to the bars or press hard on the rear.
You feel a click and the Hill start brake assist is applied same again to manually disengage the bike must be running with the side stand up.

Cheers

Works on mine on the flat.

This is not how my '21 HSA is engaged; I don't have to pull the lever or depress the brake pedal that hard. Definitely don't have to get the lever all the way to the bar. No 'click' is felt on mine either.

I’ve had another play with it

I got it to activate manually once on the rear brake lever, but only once. No joy at all with the front.

I’m definitely pulling hard enough.

Unless there’s any other suggestions I think I’ll have to check in with the dealer.

Also it wont work if the side stand is down. you will get a flashing yellow "H".

I leant something the other day to. When the Hill Start is on, so is the brake light.
I thought the brake light only worked when you pulled on the leavers.

The pull on the front brake lever is not only firm, but also very quick.
I've used it a few times, but I would have used it more, if it stayed engaged with the site-stand down, due to having ramp in front of the gate.

I’ve tried all the options with no joy. It seems fairly straightforward according to others, so I think I’d better get it checked out.

It’s under warranty with BMW. Does anyone know how that works? I guess I just book it in with my local dealer? I bought it from Kent but live in York.

You can use anyone you like just pop in to barrie Robson and ask them their opinion

They will take a look and let you know if it needs to be booked in

The low beam has now stopped working :(

I’ve booked it in with the dealers who will also look at the hill start

I’ll report back if I find anything useful
