Hi,
I've just joined, having replaced my 2019 1250GS with a '24 RT, before they do away with the 1250 motor, which I love! It will get general use, riding with mates, including touring the UK and continental Europe.

I also run a 650 Bandit, for poor weather winter rides and two old bikes, a 1975 850 Norton Commando and a '76 CB750, which i restored last winter. Definitely oil in my blood!

👍

Welcome to the forum.

At least you have seen the light and replaced the GS with the better bike RT

Thanks. On the North Essex coast, Mersea Island.

RT better than GS? That's a difficult one. Personally, I wouldn't really say so. The GS is slightly more nimble, especially with Road 6s on. The RT has slightly better weather protection, until you fit a Puig Touring screen to the GS, then nothing between them. I think I prefer the RT's looks, but that's very subjective and not much in it, for me. The GS's top loading panniers are more convenient, with lots of aftermarket options there.

I love the 1250 shift cam engine. I wanted a new 1250 that I could do 10,000 comfortable miles a year on. I don't yet like the look of the 1300s, so RT it was and, although not yet run in, I really like it so far. Good decision.

But, fitting my Sat Nav has been a PITA compared to the GS. My phone is nothing special, but no chance it will fit in the RT's phone compartment and the Connected Ride app seems too fiddly and clunky for reliable navigation. I'm sure BMW will sort it out on future bikes, but not there yet. But that's icing on the cake. The build and materials used, Dynamic ESA, shift cam, motor and exhaust noise, handling and comfort are 10/10. Capped off by a responsive and friendly local dealer. Easy decsion!
