Years, Models, and evolution of the BMW R1250RT ?

So I am gravitating toward this bike for a few reasons. The number one reason is it is a huge step up for my wife and I to ride 2 up . I showed her a picture of the pillon seat and she just smiled so that’s a good sign. So I want one of these bikes now I need to find out how they began and were they are in comparison to todays bike .Does anyone know the evelotion that they could share along with the high and low points?

Personally I'd go as new as you can afford, but you also have to be careful about specification, as you could easily buy a newish bike with a low spec, or on older one with a better spec, so think what is important to you as a non negotiable.

I went for the TFT model fully loaded, there is little difference that cannot be made up in options between the bikes a year or two earlier than that model, and from then on there are only a couple of bits like dynamic cruise control which have even been options, so any of the 1250 models are pretty sound if the budget allows?
