Hellooo...


Just signed up for this new forum, as i'm hoping it might be a good source of info on all things RT.


I bought a new fully spec'd RTLE in May this year, and i was lucky to clock-up over 2500miles until the dreaded Recall.
My dealer has given me a new R1200GSTE to play about on, but its not a patch on the RT, and i'm really looking forward to getting her back.

With mileage like that you must be near the top of the pile on experience.  So, in the true spirit of forums, what don't you like about it.    I myself have yet to ride one having swapped my k1600 GTL for it 3 weeks ago. Have had 3 other 1200 RTs between 2005 and 2011 though.

I was due to part ex my 2012 RT the same week as the re-call was issued,  I'm going ahead with the deal when they eventually fix the problem.
I ordered the LE with audio without even test riding the bike,  so I'm interested to hear anyone's experiences on owning/riding the 14

I put 4500 on mine before the recall. Love the bike.

I've had a couple of European trips since picking it up including a run down to Italy. After the K1600 I found it a bit vibey to begin with but this seemed to smooth out after a couple of thousand miles. I did miss the power of the K at first but eventually got back into boxer mode. Had the offside switches replaced at the 600 mile service as the starter/kill switch was US. Can't believe that BMW still haven't sorted out the switch issues. To be fair Benhams were very good.

Since the recall they loaned me a GSTE for a trip to the Tour de France in the Pyrenees. Thoroughly enjoyed the ride and it is a great all-rounder but certainly can't touch the RT as a tourer. Surprisingly it was the brake assist I missed the most, particularly in the mountains. It is a great tool for two-up touring.

Looking forward to getting back on the RT for what will be left of the summer.

Sorry to hear that. I am sure you will love the bike when we eventually get them back. It handles beautifully.

The new RTLE is a stunning bike, and i really cant fault it.
Its lighter comfier and handles better than the K1600, and its almost as quick.


I really cant fault it. Its just a shame it has that 'Old Mans Bike' stigma attached to it...which doesn't bother me really.

Only had chance to take a couple of pics of my RT


It has the Akrapovic Can (which sounds gorgeous), and i've since fitted a Crud Catcher to the front of the engine (essential).
Next will be the LED spots (which i took off my GSA).

Hey, you're only as old as the.......you know the saying  ;D


I'm no spring chicken at 55, but when my visor is down, i still feel like i'm 25.


All the naysayers that slag-off the RT as being boring. really don't know what they're missing though. ;)
