Richa GoreTex gear for me. Expensive but you generally get what you pay for. Does the job well for me.

Re: Comfort Seat
Try a third party seat like the Corbin or Sargent seats. I've managed to pick up second hand Corbin seats for both my old 1100 and the 1200 I have now and find they're much more comfortable than the standard seats. I've heard good things about the Sargent seats as well. I haven't measured the height...

Re: Help needed with abrasion to engine cowling
Another option may be to cover up the damage with some head protectors, such as: https://www.motocard.com/en/engine-guard/givi-ph5108.aspx?country=GB¤cy=GBP&utm_campaign=comparadores&utm_source=google&utm_medium=comparadores_en&utm_term=engine%20guard_givi_m-0751461&size=UNICA&am...

Ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PANNIER-LINERS-BAGS-INNER-BAGS-FOR-BMW-R1200RT-LC-LIQUID-COOLED-NEW-PANNIERS/192196475258?hash=item2cbfcd797a:g:McMAAOSwcN1aUm9F Got some for my vario panniers for about 30 quid. They were fine. Spend a few pounds more and you can get them with fancy red piping. The...

Re: New owner - '08 R1200RT
"More windshield - I'm fairly tall (6'2" and feel like I'm still getting quite a bit of buffeting on my shoulders at highway speeds. No idea on what are the best brands/models." I had this problem with my 2011 bike. I found some wind deflectors that fit above the indicators...

Re: Kevlar Jeans
I have a pair of Hood (Kevlar lined) jeans. Good quality and have lasted well for many years.
It's worth getting the hip and knee protectors for them as well.

Re: Corbin Seat w/ Smuggler set up for a 2009 R1200RT - screw up!
Before modifying the seat you should put in some hours on it, see if you find it comfortable, you might be surprised, I have had them on last 3 bikes, find soft seats OK for short rides but soft incredibly uncomfortable for long rides. I agree. I've had Corbin seats on my last bike and current one ...

+1 but I replaced the standard seat with a second hand Corbin seat.Beagle wrote: I couldnt live with the stock seat and got a Sargeant rider and pillion. Greater area and more support. Stock seat is great in the showroom but compresses too hard after a short while.

Re: R1200RT Weather Cover
Try your local Halfords branch. If I recall correctly about £50 for one that fits mine if I take the top box off. It seems quite a decent quality.

Re: Wunderlich front grill
I saw these and didn't like the price, so I just bought a sheet of metal grill on ebay, cut and bent it to shape and placed inside the existing housing. It's not glued or screwed in but has sat there quite happily without moving for the last 12 months - all for just a few £'s. Just search ebay for &...

Re: Keeping the TC
I had the loan of a GSA a few months ago while a dealer was doing some work on mine. The GSA felt really good (much better than I was expecting) and made me wonder whether I should change for something newer. But getting back on mine again it still feels just fine. A new(er) machine would be nice bu...

Faulty starter motor?
This sounds pretty similar to a problem I had on my old 1100 RT.

Re: Minimum DIY maintenance
When I first started motorcycling I did all my own maintenance and rebuilds - as much out of necessity as anything else. Nowadays I find that regularly checking of oil and tyres (as Jim commented, use a quality pressure gauge) and a visual inspection is enough. Regular washing helps spot things that...

Re: help needed re: mirrors
I have the same problem on my 2012 RT - in particular when the top box is fitted (which is most of the time). After trying some different mirrors with varying degrees of success I ended up with a set of Napoleon Mirrors. They work just fine, and I can now see everything behind me. They come in chrom...
