Re: Touring abroad

Must admit it like flying solo on the bike. It's usually only a couple of short breaks each year, but the break from timescales around work, family, home, etc is nice. Don't get me wrong, life's great (even more great when I finally can afford to retire) but a little solo trip is a bit like ctrl ...

Re: HAYNES MANUAL

I was planning on buying the shop manual.
Does the Haynes manual contain any additional material a bmw noob might benefit from?

Re: New Owner Here

Hey, how did you get on with the F6B's cut down screen? I am imagining a wall of air coming off that.

You are exactly right. Incredible helmet buffeting with that stock shorty screen.
All the wind comes up that big front fairing and the screen just helps push it ...

Re: Shift Assist

Cool.

I tried it for the first time today and it works great. I think I have the technique down. Pretty slick - nice smooth shifts. I'm a fan and will definitely be making use of it.

Re: My New Ride

That screen looks huge. Can you see over it if you stand on the pegs.

Haha - it's the stock screen, fully extended.
It does look kind of ridiculous, but nice on a 35 degree day.

Big criticism on the stock screen is it doesn't seem wide enough - allows a good deal of air on the  shoulders ...

Re: My New Ride

Congratulations.
My first choice would have been the blue before I bought the Smoked candy Bordeaux version.

The '17 blue/ebony is very cool.
I got the '16 ebony/brown/burgundy/something and am actually happy with it.
I like the way the color varies from black/brown to gold or reddish brown ...

Re: 2016 R1200RT Mini USB cord

Nope. The correct connector has both a lightning and a 3.5mm connection.
Better idea is just to put your music (mp3 format) onto a USB stick and plug that directly into the bike...

Is there anything special that needs to be done in terms of folder arrangement on the USB stick?

I plugged a USB ...

Re: Shift Assist

I'll go first. I use it a lot, but generally use the clutch from 1st to 2nd up and down. Its a bit rough if you use it from 1st. Its just a clutch less shift...

Re: Shaving a seat

Just be aware that a pre LC bike with a low seat is 10mm higher. In fact the LC can be the same height as a factory lowered earlier model.

Yeah, that's true - good point.
10mm doesn't sound like much, but when you're right on the edge it can make a big difference.

Re: Shaving a seat

What he said.
I got the lower heated seat and
it really makes a big difference.
Much more comfortable to ride.

I have a brand new 2016RT and am 5'7". I took delivery just last weekend. With the standard seat in the low position I'm way up on my toes - unworkable situation from my perspective ...

Re: New Owner Here

Congrats!

I picked up my new 2016RT last weekend and am also loving it. I have 80 more miles left on the break-in period and then, as the salesman told me, I can "ride it like you stole it".  :))

I'm coming from a different direction - traded in my F6B Goldwing for the RT and love the fact ...
