I am looking at doing the same thing. I have no use for external speakers and would prefer the extra storage those cubbies could provide. Any luck finding a solution?

Very interesting. I thought mine somehow must've been incorrectly aligned. I have a USA 2024 model and the rear fender/splashguard is shifted slightly off to the right. Apparently, this may be a feature.
