Due to come into force early next year and it seems it has the potential that many forums are simply going to close down due to the necessary admin and possible fines for the owners. It's likely to affect every type of forum from here to knitting, pets, DIY, caravans etc.
Is the act likely to shutdown the forum?

Re: Online Safety Act
They use the term 'significant' for the number of users. I couldn't find any definition, but I'd doubt motorcycle fora would qualify when compared to Facebook etc.
The forum has rules, moderators and sanctions. Personally, I'd doubt there's a lot to worry about.

This is something I need to look in to very carefully
Although it could just be something blown way out of proportion like the GDPR rules!

Re: Online Safety Act
From what I've read. PMs may have to be seen by a mod or admin before being sent on. Or sites to not allow PMs or to use PMs off the originating forum. Also forums/media sites must make sure in regards of an adult forum that members must agree that they are over 16/18 years of age. This is crap because I could say am 18 and really am only 13. I don't know of any forums that ask for proof of age.
There are a few more things but these seem to be the most important items.
Mostly this is to do with the likes of Facebook etc

Re: Online Safety Act
I'm over 18 and thought admin would be able to see PMs. Obviously would have no objections to PMs being seen by moderators and think it's a good idea, can't see any reason why someone would require them to be totally private.

Re: Online Safety Act
Private messages are just that private and I for one do not wish to be able to see them. I'm not a spy

I'm all for privacy and reading the laws then it may mean I would have to disable private messaging
Although private messages can be reported to admin and mods which then makes that message viable so I may get away with that

Re: Online Safety Act
Personally wouldn't use a forums PM for sensitive material of any description. Other platforms are available or Personal email for that sort of thing.
P.s Sim you love Michael's messages really. Especially nappy in the bathroom one.![Very Happy :-D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
