I recently fitted a dash cam to my car and found that at 2k definition numberplates were unreadable.
I upgraded the resolution to 4k and it made all the difference.
I'll hold off getting one for now, until the resolution is workable.

While 2K resolution (2560*1440) can render license plates clearly, sufficient pixel density is also necessary. To easily assess whether a 2K camera can capture license plates effectively, you should consider the sensor. For instance, if you need excellent nighttime performance, you might want to look for a sensor like the Sony IMX415, which has supplemental lighting but may cause license plate glare.
