Round trip of 260 miles to Huddersfield (yes, voluntarily!). What a beautiful day for a ride spoiled only by the descent into hell that is the A1.

Re: What did you do today?
Bought a GSA. I traded my Suzuki V Strom and got a decent enough deal. Now need to decide what to do with the RT. Likely sale coming methinks,
Re: What did you do today?
Haven’t done it yet but we’re headed off on the RT for a few nights away in Dartmouth today despite some health issues including my damn hernia but the weather looks set to be so
bike it is.

What did I do today?
Ordered a R1300RT!
Test-rode a demonstrator last week. It was the auto version, which I didn't expect to like, but it was OK. However, I felt that the auto upchanges were too early and I ended up riding it in 'manual' mode, making the 'auto' version a bit pointless for me. So I've ordered a manual bike, with a 'normal' clutch and gearbox.
Overall, the R1300RT was good. Not a dramatic improvement over the R1200/1250RT LC platform (which are excellent bikes), but it felt more compact and nimble. Slightly heavier (+2kg) and with 1 litre less fuel capacity, but these are not really significant. I like to have panniers on my bike all of the time, but don't always need the full capacity, so the 'vario' panniers should work well for me. I've asked for the higher windscreen as I'm just under 6' foot tall, so the shorter sport screen is no good for me. I have a high rider seat currently, so I've asked for that too. (both no-cost options at the time of of ordering).
I'm told that the connectivity problems with the 'Connected Ride' app are sorted. Let's wait and see...! I really hope it works this time.
I'll be advertising some 1200/1250 accessories for sale soon!
PS - will I still be welcome on this forum?! Or do we need a new section?

NO get out
I was originally thinking of splitting the sections in to the categories of the bikes oil head hex head cam head wet head shift cam
But I feel it may split people up! the forum URL doesn't lend itself well to the 1250 and 1300RT so even thought of changing that but what to?
But I do need to do something to include the 1300RT in to the forum as I would like this place for all RT owners
Re: What did you do today?
Not a huge trip but we enjoyed our 3 nights in Dartmouth, didn’t use the bike after we arrived
.
Got back yesterday lunch time to find temps of nearly 30 degrees

Re: What did you do today?
It's the last day of the BMW Motorcycle Owners Association rally in Lebanon, Tennessee. I've seen license plates from Alaska (!), Oregon, California, Maine, and places closer. Excellent seminars on travel, technical support, and many other subjects.
BMW Performance Riding Academy had one day off-road classes, ChampSchool had track training, and there were many excursions to local attractions.
I saw a wide variety of vendors, food, and displays.
Next year will be in Vermont. I'm trying to convince my non-riding wife that she would enjoy it, too!

If it was the one in the left just as you're coming out of Froncysyllte (with a cafe & loo block in it), then quite probably. I'd been out for a quick jolly round mid & north Wales but stopped for a quick stretch, drink of water and eat a bar. You should have said hello.simbo wrote: Mon Jun 16, 2025 8:29 pm @Captain Sisko was it you we spotted in the cafe lay-by in Llangollen near the aqua duct on Sunday just gone?
Unfortunately I also picked up a nail on that trip. I got home fine, but the back tyre was down to 2.4bar. £55 to fix it, but as the tyre had only done about 1500miles and it was a professional repair and there's no reason why the tyre shouldn't not lead a long & useful life, I suppose it was worth it, just at the time it felt like a bit of a rip off.
How did you know it was I?

Re: What did you do today?
Today (sunday) I ripped the forks off my Varadero and rebuilt them fitting YSS springs.
I brought a full rebuild kit for them when i brought the YSS fork springs and the YSS rear shock.
Also used 15 weight oil instead of 10 weight.
As i have set the new YSS rear shock to its shortest length, I dropped the forks 30mm up though the yokes.
Bike now sits a lot lower, but the seat hight is still about an inch higher than the RT.
So next job is to send the seat off to be lowerd.
I have tested it, and with the YSS springs and 15 weight oil, the front end does not bottom out.
Today if i get time i need to wash the RT as it is coverd in flys and dust.

We didn't see you until you were leaving, we heard the boxer engine and looked out.
Bit sad of us really, as we recognised your bike as you rode off

Re: What did you do today?
Should have said as I was also there. Try to go every year. Surprised didn't have stunt arena and seemed quieter than normal.
