Headlight covers

Post by Steve398 »

Because of the huge cost of a replacement headlight for the RT’s I, and many of you I’m sure, bought an R&G headlight cover from Nippy Normans.
Very nice, not a great fit TBH, but thin enough to bend and hold on the 3M grippy things. The problem is they break easily (but that could well be me being cack-handed). After the third one at about £70 a shot I thought I’d try a Powerbronze one, primarily because they’re cheaper (£46) and thicker.
All good except they’re a bit wonky and being thicker don’t bend so easily to conform to the correct shape, even when you’ve pushed it in the right direction the supplied tiny 3M jobbies aren’t man enough to keep it there.
However EBay provided me with some 22mm 3M thingies that did the job.
Looks good and works a treat… just hope it’s a bit stronger that the previous 3!

My R&G cover has saved my headlight, I had it on a couple of months before something hit and cracked the cover.

I’m not doubting the R&G covers ability to do its job, I was merely commenting that it broke rather easily which lead to me buying a Powerbronze.

The last R&G one fell onto tarmac when I dislodged it cleaning the bike, and I was surprised to find it in two bits to be honest.
The previous one I stepped on, no complaint, 12st of me planting my size 11 boots would break most things!
The first was again a drop, told you I was cack-handed.

The Powerbronze is more sturdy, but a bit out on the shape and needs the larger 3M grips to hold it in position, so all I was trying to do was give anyone buying one a heads up. ;)
