Going in to storage.
Just need a quick bit of advice...
I'm going away on a course for 10 weeks as of January and I won't be able to use the bike in that time - So I'm putting it in to storage for the duration. I've never put my bike away for a long period, so I was just wondering if anyone could advise me on if there is anything I need to do to make sure it comes out and will be good to use.
Cheers,
James.

Re: Going in to storage.
Ah... Slight problem there... It's going to be in a storage container at my friends yard (no garage available). And with me being away from home I don't fancy leaving the battery on a trickle charge at home without my being there.Stu wrote: Fri Oct 03, 2025 4:06 pm For 10 weeks I wouldn't worry!
Just keep it on charge is all I would do
If I disconnect the battery terminals when I put it away will the bike be okay when I re-connect them or will it mess up any of the onboard electronics being without power for so long?

Re: Going in to storage.
You could always buy a solar charger and stick the panel to the roof of the container

Re: Going in to storage.
I have heard that you should put it on the center stand with the idea that it takes the weight off of the tires and suspension.
Just gimme just a second here … I am configuring it to “launch mode”!

It'd have to be on it's centre stand anyway as where it's in storage will need to be stable and as out the way as possible.Dugway wrote: Sat Oct 04, 2025 2:55 pm I have heard that you should put it on the center stand with the idea that it takes the weight off of the tires and suspension.

Re: Going in to storage.
Why don't you attach a deep cycle battery to it for the duration?
Car & Bike batteries are designed to give a short burst of power to start an engine, where as a deep cycle battery is designed to give modest amount of power at a steady rate, but for a long time. That's why boats, caravans and even golf carts use them. They're alternative known as leisure or marine batteries. A new 100ah plus deep cycle battery can be bought for modest money but will run the 'stuff' that goes on in the background for months.

That could be the solution to be fair. Thanks for that!!!Capt Sisko wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 9:54 am Why don't you attach a deep cycle battery to it for the duration?

Re: Going in to storage.
Because I'm going to be away for between 5 and 12 days at a time and I'm not a fan of leaving stuff like that running whilst I'm away. I'm one of those people that, when they go away, turns everything off bar the fridge! And I'm even considering killing that this time as I'm going only going to be home the odd weekend. Why burn electric when I don't need to.

Re: Going in to storage.
Maybe disconnect the battery.
I am a new 2024 R1250RT owner and the only thing I think of is that the bike has so many electronic doodads that it may be a parasitic drain.
Don't know really.
As far as the gasoline I was right trusting a proper fuel preservative. Sta-Bil.
This guy does exhaustive tests and I trust his results...
