2014+ seat differences and can older seat be made to work?

I understand the seats from 2013 and below are not directly compatible with the 2014+
However does anyone know what the actual differences are? And are they minor enough that it would be possible to adapt an older seat to fit on a newer bike?

Reason I ask is i've found a very good deal on Russel Daylong seat locally but its for the older one. If the differences can be worked around i'd like to save a boatload of money on that option
