Got any questions about the BMW's R1200RT/R1250RT's onboard audio, Bluetooth or the Electrical system?

2022 RT with f/f radio pairing

Post by chappers2a »

Hello all. I have recently moved up from a 2016 R1200RT LE with radio option to a 2022 R1250RT LE with factory fitted radio option and I am having a little trouble getting everything paired correctly. I wish to use my Nav 6 and have a BMW locking cradle which has two plugs, one of which powers the Nav. The other plug I have no idea what it does or where it goes. So I need to pair my Nav 6, BMW U-com 1 headset, android phone for music and perhaps calls and the bike for DAB/FM radio. Does anyone know the correct pairing order? Does anyone know what the 2nd plug does from the cradle? I am completely fuddled at the moment! Thanking you in anticipation.

I have a 2023 RT so should be the same. I retro fitted the OEM nav cradle last year and the specific cradle for the TFT screen RT is the no sound option. You should find the power plug to the left of the frame just at the front of the tank, I believe the connector from your cradle should have a white plug which should be the power lead and the other plug will be surplus.
I have a Garmin XT2 mounted on mine and the connection sequence I've found best to follow is:
Connect helmet to bike as main phone.
Connect helmet to sat nav as 2nd phone/gps.
Connect phone to bike and use the bike to supply music via the media option. I personally don't bother with the radio as the signal is very unreliable in my experience so I just use Spotify.
I also have my phone connected to the XT but de-select the media options. The only reason I connect the phone is because it give the XT a data source for live traffic and route updates.
I hope this information is of some use to you.

Thank you Loopers, I've done as you suggested and everything pairs up but the voice instructions from the Nav 6 appear to be a little shall we say garbled as if the lady has a really bad lisp or speech impediment! Have you had similar I wonder? I'm sure there must be a way to hear the Nav 6 clearly!

Not sure about the voice issue, I know there is/was an issue with some NavIV units ghosting images on the map but can't remember if it affected the voice as well. I run both the XT2 and the BMW app mapping as sometimes [especially in Europe] the BMW map gives more accurate information regarding road closures.
You may have to tweak some settings with your helmet unit and Nav unit. I run a Schuberth C5 [ SENA] and don't have any problems with navigation instructions but do sometimes have problems with music volume.

Thank you again Loopers, life was so much simpler with my 2005 RT and later my 2014 RT. This current RT 2022 seems to have taken a step backward and made the technology so difficult and frustrating to use. During the last process of pairing etc. I downloaded the Connected Ride App onto my android phone foolishly thinking it would help. I couldn't close the app down without having to switch off then restart my phone! So the app is now uninstalled. BMW have a lot of explaining to do as to why they made this system so user unfriendly. I will take my bike to the dealers and insist they set it up for me and show me how it all works-I bet they can't!!!

Sorry for delay, been away from computer. I think the app issue depends on the age of your phone, I have S25 and have found no problems shutting down the BMW app [ I do regularly get a problem exiting Tik Tok when someone sends me something, the music stays on and then i have to restart the phone]
The only thing the app will do is give you navigation facility and record your rides if you want, if you have a separate nav unit then it's up to you if you want to install it. My friend has a 1250 RS and has uninstalled it and just uses a Carpuride unit for music and navigation.
