I went around finding the "BMW" pins I'd proudly put on different riding coats and took them all off.
Heartbreaking...
Maybe another BMW in the distant future... But not for now.

Yeah, I have the same feeling about BMW. I was proud to own a BMW motorcycle. I recently completed replacing all four cam shafts and all the followers, with NO aid from BMW. I either had 2 soft cams and or 2 bad followers, and BMW said that it was my problem. They knew they had a problem and just said "screw you" to their customers.

I don't know if I will ever buy a BMW product again.

The great majority of folks here did not have our experience. :-)

I'm grateful for all the help I got from people I never even met!

I bought an RX7 Evo FIM helmet for about £350 in an end of season sale.

Superb fit and very comfortable, it has great ventilation which of course makes it nosier than many other helmets, but being 3 parts deaf anyway that doesn’t really affect me. Although I also bought the Sena uprated 50S earpieces for the fitted cheapo (but understated) 10R comms which massively improved clarity and volume.

I've been very busy with my 2014 RTP. This was my first maintenance since purchasing it at the police auction in October, and riding it from Sacramento California to Nashville, Tennessee (2400 miles). My goal was to fix broken windshield brackets, change all oil and filters, and lube the drive shaft. I have replacement bracket parts and everything else I thought I would need.
So far, I've removed all of the plastic, trim, headlights, and crash bars. The windshield replacement brackets came from Beemershop and fit perfectly. But, the top right plastic support where the pin fits has broken. That will be a job for JBWeld.
I also brushed everything to get rid of ten years worth of California dust.
Today, I ran it up to normal running temperature, let it cool a but and then drained the engine oil That is when I found the first issue from the previous service (NOT me!). Greatly over-torqued drain plug! The copper crush washer had been squeezed to less than.04 inches (less than 1mm!). Then, I found that the oil filter had been over-torqued as well, without any oil on the rubber gasket. I had to use a chisel to get it to turn. So, I got the engine oil and filter changed! And I thoroughly cleaned the sight glass so I could see all of that ice, clean oil!
I then turned my attention to the transmission oil The oil filling plug was also over-torqued (Quelle Surprise!) In fact, it resisted so thoroughly that it completely stripped the Torx head. And, thus ended my day! I sprayed it down with PB Blaster to soak overnight.
Tomorrow, I will Dremel a slot in the Torx head so I can get my biggest flathead driver in it with a cheater bar. Hopefully, I won't find the final drive plugs as badly over-torqued. But, I've ordered all new drain and fill plugs for everything.

Wherever I end up tomorrow evening, I'll have to stop for a while as I have other commitments for the next ten days.

Nothing to do with bikes but I did a fairly big favour today for our foreign customer. He was really pleased and sent a thank you note to me and the boss.

My reply was:

"Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, consider this justice a gift on my daughter's wedding day."

Finally contacted my BMW-specialist about the parts and labour I wish to get done for my R1100RT before summer.

Mainly:
- all clutch and throttle cables
- R1200 injectors
- fuel pump, filter, in tank hoses etc.
- Hall-sensor
- updated cam chain tensioner on left side
- and probably something more

Idea is to have peace of mind on the road for many years to come.

Rest of the bikes require just oil changes - Triumph probably new tyres if I keep it.

That's a list. Heard a swap to 1200 injectors makes a large difference.

boredom is a killer. For the first 2 years of retirement I hadn't a clue what to do until the wife bought me a can of paint.

Filling and sanding,then spending twice as long cleaning up.Dust has an uncanny knack of getting everywhere, even through a shut door.

I couldn't agree more. I retired in July 2022 (5 years + ahead of plan) and really struggled as a result of the instant gap in both physical and mental interactions and demands. My colleagues all said I was going to struggle without a plan of what I was going to do however I thought that was them trying to talk me out of going. Boy were they right, still 2 1/2 years down the road i'm a bear to be around (according to my wife) if I don't have something to occupy my time and make me feel like i've achieved something of worth. Maybe it's the long term work ethic or the RN or just simply being from a generation who can't sit on their arse's looking at a digital screen for pleasure

I never had that problem in the five years I've been retired. I can't figure out how I had time to go to work before. That said, I do pace my activities - and I have lots of them with woodworking, metal working, home and garden work, motorcycles, travel and more. My first two years were just as covid arrived in the world, so I spent plenty of time in my workshop building some nice pieces of furniture.
