Recently purchased some Comma EP80W-90 GL-4 for the XJ650 FD unit, it has a shelf life of 5 years from date of manufacture.

I see just to confuse matters, Castrol have changed the name and packaging again, Castrol Transmax Axle Long Life 75W-90 (Formerly SAF-XO 75W-90 and Syntrax Longlife 75W-90).
As confirmed by Motorworks,

Have recently been looking for some Castrol Transmax Axle Long Life 75W-90, it's currently out of stock at OPIE Oils, Motorworks and Nippy Normans.
Please can anyone recommend a UK supplier or suggest a suitable alternative, thank you.
Liqui Moly looks like a good alternative,

I'm not at home at the minute but what's the actual spec that the service manual asks for?
Transmax universal says its for transmissions final drives and differentials and I'm pretty sure that meets the spec so maybe check that one out

I would agree that Syntrax replaced SAF-XO but Castrol seem to have now changed Syntrax to Transmax Axle.

Just spotted that Motorworks do list some alternatives.

I have dropped Castrol an email to see what they say
I suspect whatever you use as long as it meets the spec it will be more than good enough

It would be interesting to know why Transmax Axle is currently out of stock.

I'm sure you a right but if available, would rather use the BMW recommended Castrol stuff.

This would seem to confirm that Red Line 75W90 meets the BMW SAF-XO spec. too, although more expensive from the USA.
