Swingarm lower suspension protection

Interesting, the replacement T-tech shock doesn’t have the plastic guard, is held on by a clip.

I'm only going by what I can find online. From the Max BMW parts diagrams, for ESA units, the guard looks like it is an integral part of the unit.



The guard is fitted between the spring and bottom flange. The shock absorber would have to be dismantled to fit or replace the guard.



However, for the non-ESA shocks, the guard (#2) can be purchased separately.

Is there anything to prevent fitting a longer guard to include the lower mount to replace it on mine.

I suppose if you have got the original shock, the guard could be removed, extended and possibly fit to the T-Tech shock.

Huggers for earlier models are plentiful but could only find a Puig for the LC's

Only gone and found 1,the last 1 Pyramid Plastics had(if they actually have 1 in stock) and cheaper than the 1st one I found

That hugger looks like it's in 2 parts and designed to protect the rear passenger footrest area.

Probably not a bad thing, I really don't think it would have protected the swing arm and rear shock pivot point.

Just looked at the photos, It looks like it may hook under the front of the rear mudguard… what does anyone else think? If it does will it protect the shock?

It looks like it may hook under the front of the rear mudguard, what does anyone else think, will it protect the shock.

When viewing the fitting instructions, the mounting points are the rear footrest hanger bolts.
IMO, this gives a good indication that it will not protect the swing arm and rear shock pivot point.

I’ve got these fitted. They’re nothing to do with the shock, they prevent spray from the rear wheel passing through the gaps in the frame onto the pillion and riders boots. A bit like the ‘authority’ weather protection panels.

Aye, that’s the ones David. I had those fitted initially but the upper section didn’t seem to work so well, so I kept the lower panel and replaced the uppers with the puig version which seems to work better as spray suppression.

Looking at the bottom picture it does look like you could possibly lengthen the bottom of the mudguard visible on the photo, which may help prevent the tyre spray on the mount from the back wheel.

In regard to the first photo -
It tends to indicate that the majority of the mud on that side is thrown up by the front wheel, so perhaps the additional mudflap on the front engine plate (post #1) may lessen the spray from the front wheel, if it’s hitting the sump it has to be spraying the rear shock too.
