David. wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 9:37 pm If you've put 3.8 litres of oil in and haven't run the engine to fill the oil filter, I'd be surprised if the oil level is too high.

Whilst watching the sight glass, run the engine, the oil level will be seen to reduce.

With the help of an assistant, lean the bike over on the righthand side, the oil level should be seen to reduce.

My 2012 Camhead probably has a little too much oil in, I'll just ride it until some is used and the level reduces itself.
I'll try tipping it... no one here to help me.... but if it's a little too full will it correct itself?

My manual says the level 5 minutes after riding should be in the top half of the sight glass.
So you're good.

I do wish that BMW used a dip stick, though.

Are you draining the oil out of the filter too, or do you prefill it before fitting?

You seem to be making a fairly straightforward job complicated.

And what's with the "Like if you read this".This is a motorbike forum, not farcebook.

Strat,I put the bike on its center stand, drain warm oil and replace the filter.I then have to hand more than enough oil to refill untill it's half way up the site glass.Run the bike for a few minutes then let it settle for five. The site glass will be empty.I then slowly fill until 2/3 full in the site glass. That does me.Ill check after a ride but I've never had to put more in(I onc3 has to take a smidgen out)
I no longer have me RT but my next BMW(will have same engine)will be done that way.Takes half hour start to finish, unless I let it dribble out overnight after a ride.

Anyway, must dash. The MotoGP is on,although there seems to be some sort of issue with the start

I'll follow your example and do the same. Thank you.
