You must be doing something wrong! I ride 95% of the time without the panniers, in all weathers and I never get that dirty - or haven't yet!

7vwh good thing your not ridding a GS. I had a 08 one and after a wet ride had to hose down both legs before WMBO would let me inside. My mate has the newest GS and boy its a dirty bike in the wet. Must admit I'm a little surprised how dirty you are. Have you been riding down wet muddy lanes?

When I clean my bike I am surprised at the amount of crud on the back of the panniers, after I have sponged them down I normally give them a liberal coat of WD40, makes cleaning them a bit more straight forward and protects the mechanisms.
Love my family almost as much as my 90th anniversary RT

I think I'm glad I stuck with my CamHead! I've haven't had anything like that happen yet no matter how long I've been caught in the rain.

The commute is 8 miles on rural A road and 5 miles on a 70mph dual carriageway. No extras on the work RT with no similar issues.

Don't know to be fair. There's obviously some vortex/swirl effect from the rear wheel but as yet I've not had chance to run with my panniers on (shed door gap too small, too much effort to affix at 6am).
