I was just going to refresh my memory on using the cam chain tensioner tool but can’t seem to find the correct video which uses the oe bmw tool ?.
From memory I think you slide on the sleeve, screw the tensioner in all the way until seated then insert the pinned knurled part and turn clockwise until it clicks 3 times ?.

So, ….. after a very very looooong time waiting for the BMW cam timing tools I decided to get the job done.
Both left / right side inlet and exhaust cam alignment was off, I’ve yet to ride and test after adjusting as the heavens opened
. I’m not looking for any improvement in performance/ride ability but at least I know things are set up correctly now.

You might take a look at these from AliExpress. They are cheap and pretty close to the BMW tools.
The difference in width was only .003". The alignment error would only be a small fraction of a degree. Not bad for less than 20 bucks.
