Need to completely remove tank to disconnect grip?

I need to repair the left grip heating wires on my 07. All the necessary body panels are off but I haven't disconnected the lines to the fuel tank yet. Wondering if I might just be able to shift the tank back enough to get at the connections for the heater grip wires. Didn't try yet but wondered if anybody knew. Thanks.

The answer was yes. Lots of zip tie like things keeping the cable in place. PIA.

Simbo,
I must have had too much eggnog when I wrote that post. In fact, it was necessary to disconnect the lines because the heater cable is completely beneath the tank. I was able to get enough slack in the line to do the repair but still had to undo a good number of the ties.
And BTW, it depends on what you use your bike for. My 91 GS is perfect for the forest roads of Montana. But when I want to blast down the Montana Autobahn with the cruise control set to 80, well, I'll be on the RT.
Happy Holidays!
