Greetings everyone from Southeast Washington State. Just bought a 2008 R1200RT with 40k miles today. Been lurking on this and other BMW forums the past couple weeks, checking out the intel on these bikes before pulling the trigger.
First BMW motorcycle for me. I had a 1972 BMW Bavaria car for a while, though. Been into motorcycles since the mid 1980's -- all Japanese bikes, until last year when I got a new KTM 890 Adventure. My brother bought a pristine 2012 K1600 about six months ago, and his love for that bike kind of rubbed off on me, pushing me into the BMW camp as well.
I looked at the new bikes at the local dealership this past weekend, and really want a new R18 Roctane; I may still buy one for that matter. I'm hoping they discount them a bit. Have seen several new or nearly new R18's on CycleTrader for up to $10k off MSRP. But decided to dip my toe in the BMW pool with a used bike first.
Was talking to a wet-head R1200RT rider at another dealership and he had nothing but good things to say about them. Having seen reports of these hex-head bikes way north of 100k miles, I figured a 40k used bike was a decent risk to take.
Glad to see phpBB is still in use. Was one of my favorite forum software that I used to run.
