‘07 R1200RT - No ABS Communication, Options?

Hello all, I’ve been lurking in the forums for a while trying to figure out the problem with my R1200RT. Long Story short, I used a GS911 to determine that my 2007 R1200RT (56k miles) has the No Communication from ABS error. I’ve confirmed with module masters that this is an issue that their repair process cannot correct.

I’m now trying to figure out my options and would greatly appreciate any insight.

Right now I see three options, none of which I particularly like.

1.Take the bike to BMW and have them repair it. I expect this repair will cost more than the bike is worth, so not ideal

2.Try to sell the bike with the error in hopes that someone more savvy than myself wants to take on the challenge. I don't even know what to ask for in value.

3.Replace the ABS Module and hope it works without needing a dealership computer to make it work.

Are there any ideas I’m missing? Or any advice?

Thank you in advance

If it's got servo brakes, remove the ABS, viewtopic.php?p=60328&hilit=removing+abs#p60328

Going by the BMW service sheets, my '07 hasn't had the ABS working for over 5 years. The brakes still work fine and pass our annual ministry test every year.
I just used a Sharpie colour on the flashing lamp. This is a known problem, it can be an expensive fix. Personally, being brought up with a bike that didn't have ABS, it doesn't bother me.

My main concern with this issue is that my speedo won’t work without the ABS Controller. Are there ways to make the speedo work?

I've got the same problem. I'm solving it with he motorworks abs removal parts. They are UK based. It involves a couple copper pipes that eliminate the servo brake module. You remove the abs module but keep the ecu attached to it. There are a number of videos on YouTube which show the process. Just search r1200rt abs removal. I'm doing the removal this weekend.

Awesome, thanks for the reply! Can you report back on your results? Like are there any warning lights or any other lost functionality (other than abs)?

I’ll go look up that kit. Thanks again!

There will be warning lights because your abs system will be in full failure mode. You can pain over them, cover with tape or just enjoy the light show.

Here is a YouTube link to a pretty thorough video showing the process and the parts ordered from motorworks UK. This should give you a full idea of the process.

The 06 models have a different ABS system to 07 bikes. On 05/06 the system is known as a wizzy ABS. The video is for the Wizzy system. The "wizzy system was up rated ln 07 due to when the bike lost its ABS, the whole braking system was lost. Still the 07 system has a problem of braking down but when this happens the rider keeps the normal brake system in place.
If your speedometer is not working, it's more likely that a speed sensor is at fault.

So I installed the parts from motorworks. It was easy and everything works fine. Speedo, odometer and cruise control all work normally. I'm not a motogp rider so I probably can't feel the difference in the braking pressure, but it seems strong. I can't really tell much of a difference in breaking effort without the whizzy brakes. Other than the noise and fear of failure.

I did use 2 pieces of tape to cover the flashing brake warning and the red triangle. I'll paint over both of them in the winter when I take the old girl apart again. Until then I'm just riding and enjoying the peace of mind that they won't suddenly fail on me up in the mountains here in Norway.
