IPhone Not Charging When Using BMW Nav App

I have just taken my new R1250RT for its first tour to Normandy. Lovely trip apart from the fact that the BMW Navigation App flattens my IPhone 12 in about 2hrs. I noticed several Youtubers posting the same issue that the built-in charging pad simply refuses to charge the phone, and it appears you can't even turn the phone screen off when using the App to save juice. All very frustrating.
I am reluctant to now have to fit an additional navigation system (eg my trusty old Tom Tom) so just wondering what others have done that have experieced the same issues please on the R1250RT. Thanks in advance.

Hi
I fitted my tomtom as a back up . The nav app was too unreliable ( just had the latest software update, not had chance to test yet)and as you have foudn drains the power. I have an android phone but use a charging cable as the induction charge is not able to deliver enough power. Still find that even with the cooling fan in the phone pocket the phone still get quite hot.

Thanks, I will check garage to ensure that I am on the latest software...but suspect that an alternative navaid is going to be the way forward. Honda are now using Apple CarPlay which would have been better.

Mine does the same.
I ordered a short USB lead with 90' lightning end from Amazon, and plug it in.
Not had a problem since.

I've found that using the wireless charging only maintains the battery charge whilst using the app, if you plug it in via the USB it boosts the phone charge.

Mine charges slowly even when using the nav app - but what I've found is that I put the phone in (iPhone pro max) face up, and bottom towards the front of the bike, that way the camera is at the top, because if it's at the bottom, it keeps the phone up just a touch, and stops the wireless charging
