Hi,
I have a 2016 R1200RT and was looking for a decent disc lock to fit it. I like the look of the Abus Granit Sledg 77, but have read that it is hard to use if the gap between disc edge and wheel rim isn't large enough. Does anyone have any experience of using this lock, or can someone recommend anything better?

Stay safe

Steve

Hi,
I am not familiar with the Abus Granit Sledg77 but I am very pleased with the Oxford Alpha XD14.

It comes with an alarm, that is rechargeable, and is small enough to fit in the lefthand storage pocket. I tend to use it for short stops or when I use the RT for transport to football and it’s very convenient. For longer stops and overnight at hotels I double up with a litelok X1. It makes me feel better even if others believe it’s too superficial.

The other trick is to park amongst expensive exotica,!

I use the BMW Motorrad one, which like most things with ‘BMW’ on it is best part of 50% more expensive than the ABUS model that looks very similar. I hasten to add I bought it second hand and paid only £60 for it rather than the full £155!

To return to the question, it’s a bit of a knack to fit it, there’s not a lot of space but it looks reassuring difficult to remove.

P.S. It also (just) fits in the left hand side glove box thingy…

That Granit Sledg is Sold Secure gold(which isn't bad)
As an alternative consider the Hiplock D100,Sold Secure Diamond. Not as cheap i grant you,but for me its worth the little bit extra :thumb:
Image
Very easy to fit over 2 spokes on the rear wheel(obviously it will fit the front wheel)and not to big for the extra rating
Worth a thought.

I've been usint the Kovix KAL 14 alarmed disc lock initially on my F800GT now on my '18 R1250RT. It's five years old and never missed a beat.
