Drive shaft check

Post by Stu »

Has anyone who has had their drive shaft replaced had it checked at the 12k interval and if so how much did it cost?

I’ve only had the initial check and replacement swap at 36k, but seem to remember the next 12k check was quoted at around £100.

When I had the circlips & software update done under warranty I also got BMW to check & grease the shaft drive as my bike had done 22k at that point. It think it came to £108 as I had to pay for some bolts, so yeah £100 or so is about right. If you do have it done at BMW check that it's a fixed rate for the job. When I picked my bike up the service guy said it took them a lot longer than the time in the book because of the corrosion, so I won out. Despite the state of the shaft, once grease back up it passed the BMW test and they said see you at £36k.

I'm not sure what exactly will happen at 36k. If the shaft fails 'the test', fine it will get replaced, it'll greased every 12k and see you at 72k, but if it passes I'm presuming nothing happens and is it a case of see you in another 12k and we'll look at it again or do they replace it anyway? I guess I'll find out shortly as the bikes just clicked up 33k, but has anyone gone through this recently?

It will be replaced at 36k regardless!

I'm going to be at12k since it was replaced before the year is out and I'm just interested to know what the cost of this check will be

Am I right in thinking that its free with a 12k service?

I won't be having them service it but I want to shaft to be checked

I was curious about the cost to replace the the entire shaft. The BMW dealer where I bought the bike tells me it is only AUD230 . Sounds cheap to me. Has anyone else in any other country investigated the cost ?

They lowered the price of the shaft when the recall started

I had my 40,000km service the last week. Drive shaft was out of spec and it was replaced by service free of charge (2015 LC).
I am here to learn.
