Hi guys, ive just bought a R1200rt on a 66 plate. Awesome, just ridden 50 miles back from dealers. Love the screen, No wind buffeting on shoulders!! ( I am 65! Liifelong Biker)
There is a BMW Motorrad sat Nav mount in the fairing. I have a Garmin Zumo sat nav which would fit in the space. Mounting bracket for Zumo is different however fixing srews appear to be in the same configuration. Zumo Bracket comes with a cable which I had led back to battery on my old bike.
What are my options here? Replace the BMW Holder with the Garmin Zumo? I don't anticipate problems with the canbus. I can wire the zumo dierct to the battery
Or do I try and buy a second hand BMW sat nav unit?
Adice and thoughts appreciated.
Stu

Hi and welcome to the forum

The zumo does not fit in fully but you can get the 3DAM adapter which allows it to fit easily and also be easily removed

It uses the nav prep mount and just clips in and provides power from that

Be aware that the last two adaptor plates I’ve had from 3DAM have been a very poor fit and finally broke the BMW mounting plate, a new one is £109. Wunderlich do an adaptor which I believe fits a Xumo, a bit more expensive but considerably better made.

Whilst searching for the link I saw a number of Chinese copy versions of the Wunderlich box at a far cheaper cost

I've been using on of the 3D AM adaptors on my '18 1250RT for the last three and a bit years. The only gripe is the side quick release button releases the 3D AM adaptor as well as the XT. It's not really a problem, just something to get used to.
