Insurance 1250RT/1300RT

Post by TheWeeDonkey »

I'm seriously considering the 1300 to replace my 2019 1250.

The thing is I pay £160 a year comp insurance and can get quotes from a range of insurers. However, for a £24k 1300RT I've only secured one quote which seemed steep at £900.

I notice one or two forum members have the 1300 so my question is: did you find it difficult to get comprehensive cover and does my quote of £900 seem fair?

Thanks.

Given that you new 1300 has at least two and a half times the value of outgoing 1250 so you've got to expect to pay more. Then there's the increased risk of theft of a the new model and the repair/write off equation. Modest damage to an old model may easily write it off and for the insurance company it's easier just to pay out because of the low trade value. The same damage on the new model and because of it's higher value it now justifies repair. It will also cost them a lot more in time, and therefore money to oversee the repair. Lastly, I've read elsewhere that many insurers simply don't like insuring expensive motorcycles and £20 to £25k seems to be their cut off point.

Whether any or all of the above justify the massive increase I can't comment on, but it does look like there are quite a few factors goring on in the background that aren't always obvious.

When i searched the rt wasnt listed so run check for gs 1300 at £24,000. like you old premium around £150 and went up to £600. GS is a more nickable bike so would hope for around £500. may just be not on all insurances lists hence only one quote. good luck.
