what is my bike worth?

Post by ds99 »

2007 R1200RT

61,000 miles

has service history
good condition, not amazing, but not a dog
starts, runs and rides fine
heated seats/grips
radio/cd
cruise control
ESA

its just failed mot (front fork seals), no other advisories

abs pump stopped working a few years ago (brakes still work, not an MOT issue)
fuel strip gone (ie gauge doesnt work)

with three panniers, three keys

in london

any idea of value? i am thinking of just sticking it on ebay as oppose to spending money on it

Wouldn't take a lot to sort the brakes out then it would have an MOT

That's not bad! Last time I got a price it was 120 a leg that was 20 years ago!

But being a typical Yorkshire man I did it myself 😂

I'd keep it if you're reasonably happy with it ,have the fork seals replaced and get it a Mot. Sell it without an mot and you would be lucky to get £2500 . I think these old Rt 1200s can be kept running for a very reasonable cost they are keepers,if you got 2 to 3 k could you buy a better bike?

i wiped off the oil from the fork ...and it passed the MOT, so i guess I will keep it!

i think even with an MOT it's only worth £1800, looking at sold prices on ebay

Good call.
I didn't want to say it at the top of the thread but with the mileage, fork seal, ABS and fuel strip issues I would have said £1.5k - £2.0k.

It's a shame but there are so many out there - any buyer that couldn't do their own spannering would just move on to the next one and any one that could would beat you down on price. It'll always be worth more to you as a known quantity that you trust and they are such damn useful bikes to have around.

Just out of interest Mike?.. how much did you pay for your bike in 2019? No part ex or anything, just the actual price of the bike to see how much it's devalued in 6 years covering less than 9k miles per year.

£17300 was the invoice price.
So 25p per mile before servicing and tyres etc.
