BMW R1200RT/R1250RT Forum

i have had a 2007 r1200rt for 9 years (now on 60,000 miles) and in that time the following has occured:

- four windscreen mounting arms have broken, replaced with metal ones
- fuel strip gone twice, now i just use the trip counter
- ABS stopped working, not an MOT issue so I have not fixed it
- fuel leak due to quick release plastic connectors to tank failing, I've just ordered metal replacements

are there any other weak points/common problems that i have yet to come across?

I had a problem with a 2009 RT. The throttle cams are made of plastic and degrade over time and could break. I had them replaced with metal ones.

I just got a 2007 RT and here's what I'm doing about two of those:

My fuel sensor was replaced by BMW twice and still doesn't work.
I ordered a fuel sensor from FuelSensorTech.com in Spain. It just got released from customs, hopefully I'll get it installed next week. The word is that these are not prone to failure.
The ABS pump on my was replaced by the previous owner and works, but if it fails, I got a hint from a friend, there's a place on eBay in the US that will rebuild the ABS pump for $250 and gives a long (I think 5 years?) warranty on the rebuild. WAY cheaper than a new pump from BMW and a longer warranty.
I ride all winter in Michigan so I'm not willing to live without ABS and TC - any bikes that don't have both get mothballed for the winter.
I just wish I could find a BMW top box and tank bag for this model and year for less than an arm and half a leg.
