2006 RT Headlight

Considering the width and brightness at eye level I'm not overly impressed with the lights (or horn) on my 06 RT.
Are there any preffered bulb swaps to improve it? Will LED's work out of the packet with out some kind of fancy resistor intervention?
Am I destined to remain in the gloom?
The nights are drawing in again. I did promses myself I would do something about it during the summer. But summer happened and who had time for winter things? It was sunny. Best biking summer in a very long time.
But bulbs. Thoughts please?

My 07 headlights are fantastic. I bought some bulbs made in England, I can't remember the name unless i rummage around the garage. If i find the box, I'll post the make on here before i try Philips, and I wasn't that impressed. They have a slight blue tint to the glass and are meant to be 200% brighter, but still road legal. They are. I lowered the beam angle, and that helped no end. I get away at MOT time with the lower beam as they know i ride a lot in Europe. The MOT center is run by bikers.

For riding in Europe, the headlight beam should be "masked off" as per this BMW document.

I've never masked off the headlamp. I've only had oncoming cars flash me with full beam on. With the EU stamp on the headlight, mine also has arrows pointing each way. Meaning it's for right and left-hand driving. It's the same on my car with LED headlamps
