BMW R1200RT/R1250RT Forum

Finally completed some work on the RT.
End of season in Nov it was due for a front tire and TPMS sensors were dying. Its a 2015 R1200RT. I bought the bike last Oct 25 with 28,000 miles on it. Don't know if the sensors are original or not. Bought some schrader replacements from Woodys Wheels. $39 ea. Pulled the wheels about 6 weeks ago for new sensors & front tire. Finally got a decent day here in western NY, 58 deg F. Put the wheels on in the shed and new rear brakes after watching Boxflyer. Wow he is an excellent tech. Next two days high of 32 deg, groan. Chomping at the bit to get out there. Should be good for the season.

I gave the bike a decent clean yesterday, stripping off a few fairing panels and the silencer so I could get at some of the winter crud.

I am fairly fastidious about keeping it clean and greased up, so I was rather surprised by the state of the exhaust clamp bolt. It came undone OK, but looked horrible!


Hence a quick online search took me to a stainless steel equivalent stocked by Motorworks.


Ordered and fitted, hopefully it’ll last fare better than the original. Considering that it’s ideally placed to collect the worst conditions you’d think that BMW may provide something more suitable as OEM?

Continuing the spring maintenance.
Rear brake, After disassembly of caliper and a thorough cleaning it still had some drag. Ordered an MX+ & Moto Scan app, then bled the rear abs unit. Better but still some drag. After reading many posts on this recurring problem on different years most mentioned that the rear brake is also operated by the front lever. I cracked the rear bleeder and pumped the front lever several times. It only filled the bleed hose about 1/2 to 3/4" of fluid. However this seemed to release the rear caliper. I don't know if this is recommended or not but seemed to help.
