In my opinion, just update to the best soft/ engine if possible without loosing too much data.
Users will adapt to changes very quickly, and if that upgrade will help you in future, and generally cause less issues and bugs, then definitely go for it.

After spending  a lot of time with this software and in my opinion too much time I have quickly learnt its crap!

I have used other software in that if you want to update you simply delete all files except images and settings folders upload the new files update the database and it's done within 10 minutes.

I have spent hours and hours trying to get this software to work and there is constant obstacles with the update.

I tried a conversion to another software and it worked well in that all users and posts where present but all images where broken!

But we need to move forward

If you click the link in my signature for zumouserforums that's the software I am thinking of using.

The ZumoUsersForums is nice and clean phpBB. Looks nice and clean. I thought that this engine phpBB was abandoned good few years ago, as I seen many forum admins switched to different ones. But when I checked the latest version is actually 2 months old.
Again. Whatever is the easiest to maintain, and reasonable modern I'm in  ;D

As you have seen phpBB is well and truly alive

A lot of forums switched to Vbulletin thinking it was the way forward but I wasn't so sure so stuck with phpBB

Last year I converted my other forum to invision community! Sometimes I think that was a mistake but it has so many features the trouble is is that it costs money

Yes, indeed. As that is known for years, actually decades now? (even couple as I remember phpBB by Przemo very long time ago)
Anyway. Looks like it is excellent choice then.

@Doctor T I really like that but it will be low down on the list of priorities at the moment

I would need to figure out how to make it work and stop the header looking big on small screens etc

If it's too big then it will need to be reaized

If you can't figure it out then send or post it on here and I will do it for you

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your work @sakm.
I really appreciate it.
I have one questions. I found two board styles -standard (which burn my eyes totally ;D ) and Silver which is a bit better but still very bright.
I know that everyone have it's own preferences, and maybe I am in the margin. But is there any chance to add some darker style to the general layout?
I am one of the folks which prefer black/ grey (anything darker) background.

Thanks once again, and I'm sorry for be so demanding ;) :be happy:

@Arek i can certainly look at styles for you that's no problem

I just need to go careful as developers have a habit of not updating them after a while so need to get something that is well supported

Got back in after admin reset my password for me (didn't receive the requested automated reset emails). Thanks to sakm for replying to emails promptly and sorting it out.
