Steering fork leak

On my 2007, I noticed a slight leak at the seal on my left steering fork so I started looking at DIY videos. One guy kept insisting that there was no utility for the forks being pressurized since they only steered the bike, and did not provide any help help with suspension. He didn't even recommend ...

Re: Philips Ultinon Sport H7 LED Bulb

Finally managed to get the high beam LED bulb in. Once again, the whole process reminded me of that movie There Will Be Blood. Once I got the plastic collar situated in the hole (this was quite difficult and be sure you stop some paper etc. below it so it doesn't fall into the headlight unit). I ...

Re: Philips Ultinon Sport H7 LED Bulb

Bought a pair and, as I thought, you can't get the clip over the fat fins but you can unscrew the plastic base plate, insert it in the hole and snap the clips over it. Then you take the fins and screw it back on the plastic base which is essential a collar for the metal unit.

You can fit the whole ...

Headlight bulb orientation [Haynes wrong?]

My Haynes manual assures me that the tabs on the bulb base plate should be pointing down with the high beam and up for the low. I have had three RTs, and still have two of them, a 2005 and a 2007. Both of them have the tab up for the high beam in the middle. I may have a vague recollection of my ...

Hahahaha !! There I was patting myself on the back for having thought of this trick myself, and then I see 10 people who thought of it years ago!

Re: Philips Ultinon Sport H7 LED Bulb

Thanks for that breakdown. That settles the light brightness and beam pattern questioin. But do you think that the wire clamps will work with that fat base?

Philips Ultinon Sport H7 LED Bulb

This was recommended by an RT owner on a Facebook group. He says they work fine, with no canbus issues, but I'd prefer the opinions to be found here, especially if you know the product or similar ones. Thank you. Here are the questions I asked him [and you guys]:

I tried an LED high beam before and ...

Beemer Boneyard windshield upper swing arms

I had bought a pair of these milled aluminum arms from this company some years ago and they fit and functioned perfectly. I just had to send back a pair because the hole for the pin that attaches them to the windshield was way too big, causing significant rattling over bumps, etc. . I checked the ...

Illegible screen

One thing about my 2007 RT that I find very irksome and unsafe is that it is extremely difficult to read the screen unless the sun is coming directly onto it over your shoulder. It really isn't a matter of glare off the screen, or needing to shroud the screen, it's just that the back lighting (which ...

Glad I totaled my 2009!

Until last week, I had three RT's. Just prior to Christmas, I totaled the 2009 in my profile picture by hitting a deer at around 45 mph (no injury to me) which eventually turned out to be a good thing! Since I gave up on cars about 18 years ago, I resurrected my 2005 RT which had not been started in ...

Not-so-slow front tire leak

Out of nowhere, the front tire is losing air steadily out of a newish front tire with a couple of thousand miles. I have just finished immersing the tire in water after having overfilled it and can detect no air bubbles. There are a few minor dents in the rim to which I paid particular attention ...

Re: Over-filling oil

Thanks. My recollection was that normally, right after turning the engine off, the sight glass was empty, so I thought I might have had put in about half a liter too much. I released enough oil (Maybe 150 ml) to bring it to the normal fill line. Don't know if that was enough to cause any troubles ...

Over-filling oil

I'm on tour on my 2009 RT (60k miles) and have slightly (??) over-filled the engine oil. Changed oil/filter before leaving. The sight glass is totally filled, and doesn't drop at all right away when the bike is started. After about 40 seconds it drops, and remains, to just above the fill lines ...

Re: Removing front mud guard decorative piece

UPDATE: I had looked on YouTube for a video on the subject, but found nothing. After posting here, I just tried to find a video on front wheel removal, which verified that you only have to remove the four small screws that refer to my post and Bob's your uncle, the wheel pulls straight out. I wonder ...

Removing front mud guard decorative piece

I'm talking about the shiny plastic bit that sits on the very front of the mud guard, whose removal will allow the wheel to be pulled forward and out easily (??). Although I've managed to extract the front wheel without removing it, I want to try taking it off this time to avoid cracking it. There's ...
