R1200 2008 sold. ...
Maybe next time, something used with LED lighting and NO CanBus!
oh yeah, something where you can change the final drive oil without removing the rear wheel!
1250? Maybe....
What was the best 1250 year model? (If I may ask...)

Re: Oil Change ... too hard!
Go ahead and put in 4.0 liters/quarts ....
and the little round window shows that you've over-filled it. The oil level show well over 100%
I wish it WERE as easy as you described. It's not...
but I've sold it now ... it's gone forever...so that's not my problem anymore.

All Good Things...
There is a service in the US called "WeBuyMotorcycles.com"
It exists to relieve motorcycle owners of bikes they just don't want anymore... running or not.
It's very convenient.
They offered $300 for my 2008. Running and in great shape.
That venerable motorcycle is off to a new future, and so am I ...

Re: Oil Change ... too hard!
I always drain the oil whilst the engine is worm/ hot that way the oil flows well and I get most of it out. Change the filter then re fill with a little under 4 ltrs of new oil run the engine gently make sure there are no leaks, then switch off and let the oil settle for 5 mins or so then check ...

Re: Oil Change ... too hard!
The Clymer service manual confirms that you can't check the oil level in the window unless the Thermostat (whatever that may be) has opened ... something so that the window reflects actual oil level.
The window does not behave like a fish bowl and immediately show more oil if you add more.

Oil Change ... too hard!
Oil changes continue to be a problem. (R 1200 RT, 2008)
1. empty oil
2. put in 4 quarts
3. ride away
should be the routine. It's not.
on the BMW... there's that little round window... I thought I understood how it works. I obviously do not.
I've noted that if I check the oil, on the stand, at ...

Re: simple wire color table
Low tech options...
#1
Wire direct to the battery posts with an On/Off toggle switch on the left fairing panel.
You would have to remember to turn it on and off, but you'd always have 12 volts.
#2
Try direct to battery with a "relay" switch connected to ... anything that is ON when the key is on ...

How many different liquids go into an R1200 RT (Hexhead)????
I'm trying to take good care of this venerable ride, and I'm confused about how many liquids I could replace IF I replaced ALL OF THEM.
(No coolant, I get that.)
How many different reservoirs need to be filled to keep this engine ...

Re: Final Drive Oil Change
Found a video for a 2008 GS... my guess is the final drive units behave the same.
It's obvious, in the video, that you can't do this without removing the wheel! Astounding!!
I notice that this is "fixed" on later models, and that's as it should be.
Oh Well, I can have the mechanic change the ...

Chat GPT says....
Filling Procedure:
Locate the Fill Hole:
On the 2008 R1200RT, the fill plug is on the rear face of the final drive, near the top.
It’s a 6mm Allen/hex bolt.

Final Drive Oil Change
I'd like to change the Final Drive Oil. I do this on the Yamaha FJR, and it's obvious how it's done.
It's NOT Obvious on the BMW.
The following pic shows where the drain is, and where the red circle is, where the oil "input" should be.... but it's not!

Re: Recommended music headphones
These ear buds sit inside your ear canal, like ear plugs, to be precise. That makes a significant difference.
