Read the adapter page before buying an adapter, it may not work with the software https://www.motoscan.de/diagnoseadapter/

Yes you will need an adapter cable for the 2008 bike, it's normally under the seat near the ECU with possibly an end cap on it.

The Motoscan will clear the service reminder if you buy one of the top 2 versions

You will have 4 choices for the service reminder

BMW reset cost ???
Ignore the reminder - free
Motoscan - approx $150
GS 911 - approx $400

To help make your mind up if you need a GS 911 or Motoscan, have a read here from 2020 https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/moto ... 1.1445368/

I'll get myself over to Amazon and see if I can figure out what cable it needs. Not sure exactly what this cable will be called or where to find one.

I'm hoping the packaging will recommend something.

This is still all new to me!

I'll order one just in case . Wow I hope this $20 unit can clear the message. The local independent BMW mechanic wants $60 to do it!

The cable link warns me...

I must be special.
Well "redneck debate" as we say in my house. It's a comedy routine by Ron White. Worth looking up on YouTube.
Here, I think.

Well that's a short version of it, but it conveys the idea.

Re: sending a Message!device update

Post by Strat Tuner »

Here's the update:

I did need the cable to connect that $20, blu-tooth, device.
It connected.
It gave information about the engine over it's own app.
That app is tailored for BMW cars, not motorcycles.
The information was generic : RPM, error codes, oxygen mixture even

BUT (I like big buts)

It didn't offer much to an R1200 owner.! There was NO way to detect let alone clear the "Service Message"

Just thought you'd like to know!
