Burning Rubber Smell

2005 R1200RT, 51,500 miles:
While at idle on my most recent rides I've noticed a burning rubber smell but can't find its origin.  There are no other symptoms to accompany it (visual, sounds, computer display, etc.).  Any ideas?

If it only happened the once its probably something you have ridden through and the exhaust is burning it off. Have a look at the front header pipes and under the cat  for something that's been incinerated. I once had the smell of fried chicken. Turned out to be a sparrow embedded in the cylinder fins.
